Subject: Tires??? IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking to get winter tires this year (last year was hell!), I need something that will stop me from driving sideways, and getting stuck in retarded amounts of snow (live in Canada). I'm going to Goodyear in the next week or so, just wanted to know all of your suggestions on a good brand, cuz they'll just suggest the most expensive, which isn't always the best! Also, what's a good amount of weight to put in the box for better traction (100lbs last yr made no diff). Thanx! :)

Message: I just got some BFG Land Trail's from Crappy Tire for about $150 (installed). There were good on the little bit of snow and ice last night. Can't wait to try them in the powder! Definitely a cheaper alternative to full cost brand name tires at $200 plus a pop at the tire dealers! Even the RoughRider brands would be good at about the same price. The Eagle LS's are fine on clean dry pavement but that is about it.

Message: BFG's($400 mounted) were the best for me when I lived in Northern Pa, I also put 100lbs of sand(bags) over each rear wheel.
If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Message: I've been plowing with BFGs for many years - great tire. I might consider something studded for a 2x though. Can't you find someplace better than Goodyear to go to ?

Message: Steer clear of Goodyear. I got the Wrangler RTS, nice treds but crappy construction. One blew out just drivein around for no reason, psi was good no nail or anything, the side wall just blew out. Happen a second time when it was being winched on to a flat bed.

Message: I go to Goodyear becuz so far they're the only people who don't try to fix things that aren't broke. I took the truck to crappy tire for an oil change, and they told me I needed to replace everything from the cat. con. back. When I took it to Midas for a 2nd opinion, they said (and showed me) that the only thing wrong was the seal in the muffler was opening (1"), and it wasn't a problem unless I minded the noise (not noisey yet). Another shop I took it to for a new water pump, found $2000 of work that needed tobe done, but when my uncle (class "A" mech for 28yrs) came up to visit, he said the only thing was the lower right b/j and sooner or later the lower left b/j. So as you can see it's a little discouraging trying to find an honest mech, they all try the "she's a girl" thing! Anyone know of any other reputable tire places in Canada? or even in Detroit, I'm 15 mins from there. Also, am I defeating the purpose if I only winterize the back tires, or is it best to do all 4? Thanx for all your help guys...I'll definetely check out BFG's...digging my truck out while other people drive by, sux a$$!
*If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck!*
