Subject: Hard Start sometimes IP: Logged
Message: I've got a 96 Dakota with a V6 auto. Every now and then when I start it, it dies, It will start right back up, but will only stay running if I hold down on the gas pedal. After I drive a block or so it runs perfect. This has been going on for a few years now. My dad owned the truck first, and took it to a couple garages, but they said they could diagnose it unless it was happening. Anyone have a similar problem, and cure?
Thanks,
Kevin

Message: Sounds like you IAC might be going bad, or you might just have to give it a good cleaning. It is located on the back of the TB and is held on by 2 torx screws. Becareful when cleaning it, you don't want to twist or pull on the pintle/plunder on the end. If you want to replace it they are about $60.
If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Message: Cuz......I took the part out, and it was super gunked up. I cleaned it, and the hole in the throttle body out really good, and its ran perfect so far.
Thanks

Message: Wood, I have the same problem with my '98. Sometimes it will start right up, sometimes I have to give it some help by pressing the throttle down a bit. My IAC is clean and only a year old. The truck will do this in any weather. Frustrating.
Relf.
