Subject: performance on a budget IP: Logged
Message: Alright, alright. When income tax comes around I am going to invest no more than $1k towards performance parts for my 93 dak 3.9L. Believe it or not, it's got some pretty serious nut as it is now. But I need some opinions on what you guys think I should get for it. I'm lookin for more power.

Message: First tune it up.
new plugs, wires, cap n rotor, fuel filter.
A performance chip will run you about $250.
A cold air induction will run you about $140.
underdrive pullies will run about $125.
A cat back exhaust system will run you between $150-$300 depending on the brand you choose.

Message: Mopar1, what kind of mods to you have so far so that way we can give you ideas based on what you already have. that way we are not just making a stab at the air and telling you stuff that you already have.

Message: Ok, I have a K&N filter, 355 rear end with a 3 inch exhaust that splits to 2 1/2 inch dual outlets after the muffler. Thats about it. It sounds like a smallblock v8 and runs strong. But I need the xtra ponies. Thanks for the advice guys! This website's great. I'll have to post a pic of my dak. It's got a 4 1/2 inch cowl and a set of fat tires in the rear.

Message: sounds like a sweet ride. i also have a flowmaster 3"in/dual 2.5" out. i love the way that it sounds. i would recommend a cold air intake, bigger throttle body (check out my thread on custom throttle body boring), harland sharp roller rockers, and upgrade your plugs/wires/cap and rotor. that is a good place to start with. you could also get a superchip tuner. heck if you still have money after that, go for some 3.92 or 4.10 gears with a limited slip. that will help you put more power to the ground.

Message: daveshotdako, there is no superchip tuner for 93 Dak. They start from 98. The only chip I found for GenII trucks is jet performance.

Message: I don't have actual dyno numbers for jet to compare, but as a general feel - jet chip was the only mod which I actually felt perf improvement, unfortunately only after switching to 91 octane. The mpg also improved by 1-2 mpg. For MSD 6A+coil+wires+plugs: I actually did compared on dyno and it was +13hp/+11 lbft at the wheel, but I'm not sure if it was because of msd or because I did it on different dyno. Probably because of msd..

Message: i believe that power change with the MSD. I did the MSD6a, 8.5 wires and blaster three coil all at the same time and i was impressed by the results. That also helped the MPG's a lot, too.
