Subject: Tachometer IP: Logged
Message: I have a '94 3.9 Dak with 97000 miles. The stock tachometer stopped working around 80000. Any suggestions on how to determine where the problem is?

Message: 1) Check fuse. On the '92, it's fuse #6, a 10 amp that also controls the horn.
2) Pull instrument cluster and examine the tachometer circuit board that attaches to the main board. Look for looseness in the socket, look for damage.
Is the odometer working?

Message: Wednesday night I had taken the tachometer module out of the dash and put a multimeter on the 3 probes that the tach plugs into. I got a fixed reading from a pair of them and a slightly variable reading from another pair and another fixed reading from the final pair. The pair with the variable reading did not move with the revving of the engine. I plugged the tach module back to see if any change had occurred, no luck. Since I did not know what the readings were suppose to be, I decided to post it here.
On my way home from work last night, when I was pulling out of the grocery store parking lot, the tachometer suddenly started working. Go figure?
