Subject: Newbie here, general question... IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys,
I just purchased a 98 Dakota Sport 3.9 4X4. The truck has 69k miles on it. I was just wondering if you guys could give me any info on it. Any recalls, problem points, things I should check into. Any help would be appreciated. Tim

Message: Don't run premium fuel in the truck. It can send you down the dreaded spark knock road (search for other posts on spark knock if you like). Should you get some spark knock, there are several fixes available that are easy and cheap. Also, get the ball joints checked. They tend to go out quickly and I bet at 69k miles, you'll probably need a set. Other than that, they're great trucks - enjoy.

Message: Do a quick check of the cat while your looking. Check to see if it is loose or on its way of becoming loose. You should probably take it off and see if it fairs on the inside as well. Ohh, and I don't know about everyone else, but when you get the money; spare yourself and put on some premium quality brake rotors (the factory ones suck in my opinion. Went through 3 of them due to warping. Heh).

Message: Check the ball joints. And if they need replacing - DON'T let the dealership do it unless it's under warranty - the Chrysler parts are a huge rip-off and won't last. Moogs are good parts, that's what I had put on and they were highly recommended. Also, the dealership will not replace just the ball joints but will want to sell you the whole assemblty.
