Message: how about wires, cap, rotor? check the pressure in your tires latley? could your calipers be dragging? that's a huge drop to get all at once. i'd check for codes. it could be the O2 or engine temp sensor.

Message: Now that you say something about the engine temp. My t-stat has been running at around 160 and it will go not higher then that. No matter how long a drive my t-stat will never go above 160. But still have heat since it has been a bit cold here. When my heat is running my t-stat will drop to 150.

Message: what tstat do you have in it? i tried running a 180 but kept getting a code P1492, i think, too cold for too long and my mileage was real crappy. so i threw that thing out(didn't help performance anyway), put in a 195 and got rid of my clutch fan. it is possible that sensor is off.

Message: Have you replaced the t-stat anytime in the recent past? It might be bad or like daddio said the sensor might be bad. BUT if your engine temp doesn't get over 160, then it never enters closed loop operation, and runs off of the PCM presets, so you will be burning more fuel.
If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Also at 139k, have you replaced the timing chain?

Message: Replace the T-stat again with a 195*. I agree with cuzindoug, I think you are running in closed loop. If you don't get over 160, you should get a code. Could be a combination of the stat and temp sensor. How about the MAP sensor.....thats just a guess.

Message: Talking about gas, could be that ethanol that lowers pollution. But I have 196,547miles and this V6 motor. I now get 4 more miles to the gallon by removing the plastic cover piece that is in front to the air intake to your air-filter. What this does is forces air into the system and the computer lessens the fuel mixture. I am getting 20-24 depending on situation such as hills and the direction the wind is blowing.
Try this and let me know, for the emission test kicked me out in 29 seconds with record setting numbers. I've own this since new. 1989 and the other 1989 that I sold to Gary did the same thing.
" WARNING"
Remember to put a screen in front to replace this plastic piece that is removed so that bugs and stuff don't go to the air cleaner itself!!!!
Also check now and then for debris on screen and clean!
Write me and let me know?
