Subject: What performance mod next? IP: Logged
Message: The truck has a cold air intake, dave's custom throttle body, 180 t-stat, and a ?turbo? muffler (which was on it when I got it). I have also optimized the throttle position sensor. What do you think I should do next?
Anybody have a high flow catalytic converter? If so, what's your opinion of them?
I was thinking of getting a better muffler, haven't decided which yet.
Suggestions welcome.

Message: i have the flowmaster super 40 and love the sound and the add lower end tq. i would keep the muffler unless it sounds horrible.
as i normally say chip it because of the performance gains and the adjustment of the annoying rev limiter. superchips or mopar pcm.
than i would do a throttle body or roller rockers.
headers would also be good but i always thought buying expensive headers was stupid just get ones that are painted and have 3/4 flange with a good design.
i think i want to get a chip roller rockers / 1.7 and a throttle body for mine.
ps with all that extra power you will need a posi unless you already have one.

Message: Super chip all the way. it is the only thing I have done to my truck that I could feel. I also like the way it changes the shift points. As soon as my truck sells I will sell my chip if the buyer does not want it.

Message: For your question on the high flow cat...I could only tell a
difference in sound in around the 2-3 thousand RPM range. It
got a little louder and I guess a little more hp...but yeah, thats
what I got out of the high flow cat.
As for the next mod...go for the roller rockers, I've heard way
too many good things about them to not inform you.
If u have the money, go with a cam combo too...talk about more
horsepower!

Message: The superchip won't work on a 97. Go with the 1.7 roller rockers you can tell a difference when you put them on.

Message: I often see people on here talking about having a posi rearend. Is my 3.9 really that big a piece of crap, because there is no way I would ever need positive traction out back. I can't even get my truck to spin from a stand still with a quick stomp on the gas to the floor on level pavement. The only way I can get my truck to spin is if its wet, or pulling out of a curve on an incline.
I was thinking of the chip or roller rockers. Maybe over Xmas break I can pull the intake off and play with it some to see what happens.
Also, what is the deathflash?

Message: the deathflash is when dc reflashes the pcm to retard the timing to help fix ping. it kills power hence "deathflash". if you look under the hood either on the bottom side of the hood, top of the radiator support, or on the pcm itself, you should have a sticker that says authorized software update. im not sure what years they started doing this on, but my truck is a 2000 and it has been flashed. the previous owner must have taken it in for a repair or warranty work and they flashed it. i can do the crankshaft position sensor mod to correct this, or i can buy a superchip programmer. i think that i will save the money from a couple more custom tbs and buy a superchip tuner.

Message: 97, you could also mod the cps sensor. That usually advances the timing a couple of degrees. I think a new sensor is only $30.
