Message: I will admit I have never worked on 42re but I have done plenty of them on other trans and my only advice is rememeber the word CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN.
I cant say it enough.
You have to remeber that some orifices in a trans are sand grain small so if that little bit of dirt gets in ther it can do damage.
Good luck, Scott

Yup...same stuff since the 727/904 transmissions.
The TransGo "Profesional" Shift Kits we carry cover the 500/518 which covers the 42/44/46 series transmissions.

Message: dude,
take it to the trans shop. if something goes wrong then they can fix it. i watched the video that comes with the install it yourself kit and i'm not 100% sure i can do it myself. just remember that the TransGo professional kit does not come with a instructional video. It only comes with the written one.
my 2 cents,
Scotty

Message: Sorry to top this but has anyone successfully completed this install on their own and how did it go? I'm a rather accomplished DIY'er but I don't want to frig up my tranny.
Thanx

Message: I have the transgo installed in my truck

and have installed about 10 in other trucks in
the shop with no problems.
Just follow the instructions and take your time.
And keep it clean.
It works very well.

Message: Larry, I recently started visiting this forum, its sounds like you have done some of the most extensive mods to your truck what kind of gas mileage and power did you start out with compared to now. I recently purchased a 97 dak from a coworker, it will be my daily driver. It only had 38k miles, 2 wh. drive, auto, 3.9 v6, 3.55 rear end. I have added cold air intake, 70 series cat-back system, accel coil, bosch platinum 4+, amsoil in differential and engine, (tranny will get changed as time permits). I plan on relocating the IAT or fabricating the IAT mod. from speedtweaks.com and installing 180 deg. thermostat. So far from the mod's I have completed have caused a very noticeable increase in power and a gain of about 2 mpg.
