Message: Bullet, I have an older fiberglass cover that came on my 97 cc when I bought it, and it is real heavy. I would think that the added weight makes up the difference of the aerodynamics. The ones they are coming out with now might be lighter though.

Message: After I put my flush-mount cover on mt truck I picked up a solid 1MPG. Smaller engines see a better increase. My buddy (that made the cover) got 3MPG when he put one on his Nissan PU many years ago. I'll see if I get that much on my '99 soon.
I understand there's a trade off between the decreased wind resistance versus the increased weight. My cover is not heavy. I can easily carry it myself. It's made from two (cut to size, of course) 5/8" 4x8 plywood sheets, shaved down 2x4s, and the vinyl covering.

Message: car and driver tested the gas milage theory, there is no aero difference between a tail gate on or off or tonnou cover on or off, the only reason for any change in gas mileage is the weight of the tailgate and tonnou. its hard to believe but there is no drag created.
and the diff between having a tailgate on and off its so minut that you wont notice it all year.
so dont put a tonnou cover on for gas.

Message: Who am I to argue with the experts at C&D? But because of mine and my friend's experience of gaining MPG we beg to differ with their "findings".

Message: I put a fiberglass cover on my '02 and saw an immediate 1-2 MPG increase in road mileage. Around town, though, it likely hurts the mileage due to the weight. My driving is about 65/35, town/highway.
My mileage is down a couple MPG right now, too, so I'll probably pull the TB off this weekend and clean it up.
