Message: I am very grateful to all of you who keep this site going. I hope to become an official member soon.
I'm a long time die hard Mopar fan. (My 1st car was a '68 Charger) I've been very happy with my 90 Dakota- until now.
I got a great deal on this truck about 2 1/2 yrs ago. Only had 62k original miles on it. I added aluminum rims, white letter tires and a Leer top, a good wax job and it looks great. It came with good records and I've kept up with the maint.
About 2 wks ago the thing shut down out on the road without warning. After several attempts I was able to restart it and drive about 40 miles to the next town without any problem whatsoever. After shutting it off I was not able to get it goin again.
I very reluctantly called a "good" friend of mine to scoop me up with his '78 1 ton Chevy and tilt bed trailer. I had to hear it all the way home- 90 miles! Now I'm using his '79 Chevy Bonanza
4X4 to get around.(mostly to the parts store)
Now, both of his ol' Chevys are very nice trucks, But you guys gotta save me from becoming a convert.
I'm just an ol' redneck with some wrenches n' stuff. This computer crap has got me down, but I'm learnin here. ( I really wish I could throw in a good old carbed 318 with a 5 spd manny, but my wallet and local laws won't allow)
I 've been trying to rule out everything else before I go buy a SMEC. I still have to test a few more circuits. But looking inside the box, the silicone gel is blister-cracked. 15 years and 99,975 mi in Georgia heat and humidity- Would you think the brain is toast?
I appreciate all the help.

Message: Someone explain the splice to him...I have a feeling that's the culprit, but don't know the details on how to find it and resolder it. That is...if the 90 Dak's had that issue.

Message: #115 splice.
Under the hood, about 8" below the fuse box (mounted on driver side fender). Unbolt the fuse box, unwrap the wires. There's 3 red/white that splice into 1 red/white.
cut and solder the splice.
It will probably look a little corroded and not appear to be bad, but many here including myself have found this to not be the case.
Where at in GA? I have lived here in Georgia for almost 2 years (will be in march). I am in the north atlanta area.

Message: The notorious splice is not my problem. Found it, checked it. Its perfect. I've spent countless hours tracing circuits and checking continuity/resistance. Replaced fuel pump, ASD relay, coil and pick-up. Still no spark/fuel.
Would a faulty ISC cause this symptom?
How would I test it?
MAP sensor?
TPS?
TB fuel injector(s)?
90 Dakota doesn't have a CPS.
All vaccum lines seem to be good.
I'm in May-retta right now. Trying to get further north.
Thanks guys.

Message: Probably is the smec if you replaced the coil and pick up.I replaced my smec after replacing the coil and pickup, still no spark. The replacement pickup was bad out of the box replaced it and ran another 6 years before it failed again.
