Subject: no top end on my 6 IP: Logged
Message: alright over the weekened i raced a bunch of ricers and i was pretty disapointed with the results. i raced this old jetta like 1990 with a buzzer and some bolt ons, from 0-60 i had him totally them he passes me. the i raced some chick in a old integra with thier good old buzzers and crazy whale tails, once again 0 to about 60 so i totally had her, then she passes me. the just last night i race another integra, fairly new, buzzer and all, took it hard off the line, once i hit 70 though it passes me.
so what im tryin to get at here is my dak has no top end and i want some power up there, any help?

Message: Uh if your 0-60's are 10 or 11 seconds, thats your problem right there. My Huffy is faster than that. Anyway to get more top end you need to tear into the engine. I would recommend a cam and porting and polishing the heads, that, along with the mods you have already done should really open that thing up.

Message: I was just looking at machine shop prices and they aren't that bad. I forget the price for porting and polishing but it was only $300 to have an entire engine block hot tanked and bored out, and $80 for a valve job. That's here in NY but prices should be competitive elsewhere. If your brave the easwood company sells a porting and polishing kit for $50 if you have access to a compresor and die grinder. I just did up a set of heads for my ford and i'm pleased with how they came out (although i haven't run them yet).

Message: My 0-60 is almost 8 sec. flat. All I have is 3" pipe to a 3" flowmaster 40 seires Delta then 3" tail pipe to a kind of gay tip. I haven't had to many run-ins with ricers yet, the only reason I beat my buddys accord is he couldn't pass me, the road was too curvy :) But off the line I can toast him easy.

Message: just a word of warning about machine shops. ask around about the machine shop that you want to do your work. I work for an engine rebuilder in NC and I do most of the head work. There are alot of people that call themselves machinist or mechanics and they really dont know what the hell there doing. Right here latley we've been fixing alot of other so called machine shops' crapp. I've seen some really f@#ked up engine heads. I mean it is amazing some of the S!@# these people call work. So ask other people about the work that that particular shops does. there is a difference between an Engine Rebuilder and a Machinist. A Machinist can fabricate parts but probably don't know didly about valve clearences. If you pick the wrong shop you could wind up paying for the same job twice or worse.
