Subject: 2005 trailer wiring IP: Logged
Message: I need to wire a 2005 dakota v6 without a tow package, so i can pull a trailer. I bought a 4 wire kit but need to know which wires to connect it to in the back. there is a large wiring harness going to the back of the truck and I am a bit lost on where to start. the kit I bought said that I needed to hook up a pos, neg, right blinker, left blinker. If you could tell me which wires are these so I could splice in I would be very grateful.

Message: the splicing in works ok, but the best way to do it is to buy the kit, it has a adapter that just snaps right into the harness. no need to worry about a wire shorting out or anything...

Message: but can you just plug it in even if your truck does not have the tow package?

Message: yes, you just unplug the harness going to the tailights and the adapter will plug in between those 2 connections. no muss, no fuss.
