I need to wire a 2005 dakota v6 without a tow package, so i can pull a trailer. I bought a 4 wire kit but need to know which wires to connect it to in the back. there is a large wiring harness going to the back of the truck and I am a bit lost on where to start. the kit I bought said that I needed to hook up a pos, neg, right blinker, left blinker. If you could tell me which wires are these so I could splice in I would be very grateful.

the splicing in works ok, but the best way to do it is to buy the kit, it has a adapter that just snaps right into the harness. no need to worry about a wire shorting out or anything...

but can you just plug it in even if your truck does not have the tow package?

yes, you just unplug the harness going to the tailights and the adapter will plug in between those 2 connections. no muss, no fuss.
