Subject: 3.9 time problem IP: Logged
Message: I have a 96 3.9 and am having something sorta weird going on with my ignition timing.
it has had the death flash on it from the previous owner so its timing is usually retarded quite a bit and holds steady but then the engine stumbles or whatever you wanna call it very brief and the timing is advanced to almost +3 degrees then returns back to normal. anyone got any ideas what would cause this. my timing chain is fine it just got replaced last month.
its rythmitic(sp?) too and predictable. nothing random.

Message: here is a few things it may be and i,m not sure if these will even help.
temp. sensor for pcm,
ait sensor,
dist may be worn
pcm
crank sensor
all these things give info to the pcm when and how much timing the pcm should advance timing

Message: ive checked most of those and they seem to be ok, im thinking maybe the distrubutor gear may be worn.
