 Subject: Knocking in Steering Column

Anyone experienced a Knocking in their steering column??? I have a 2002 CC w/ 17k only. The truck in super clean and not beat on. For the past few thousand miles I have heard a knocking which is getting a bit worse. it sounds like its in the column, under the dash.
The connection to the column extention through the firewall is tight and everything at the steering box is tight. There is no play in the wheel at all (nice and tight).
Are there bearings in the column shaft that might have cracked?
