Message: umm...dont know what exactly you mean, if you are trying to bypass the ac then yes you get a different belt and remember the routing is different. it covers this on the sticker underneath the hood. prolly on the grill.

Did you have to change anything else or just the belt. I bought the non ac belt but it's to short. Its possible the guy at autozone gave me the wrong belt but I would like to know if I'm missing anything.

Message: I am thinking about doing this just for the Winter. I don't need the AC then, so why have it hooked up. Less drag and better milage. And maybe better performancee throughout the winter monthes, correct? Will anything happen to my AC not having it hooked up?

Message: if you don't run your a/c the oil in the system will not circulate and therefore you could have a seal develope a leak or compressor seize up. i know, people say they go for months without turning on their a/c compressors. there is always that risk. besides, without that compressor, you have nothing to take the moisture out of the air and if you live in a humid climate, such as i do, it will take forever to defrost your windshield.
that just my opinion and everyone's got one so......

Message: When the a/c is off it doesn't use much more power than an idler pulley or your belt tensioner. During the winter I pull the relay. About once a month I put it back in and turn it to defrost just to exercise the compressor.
I doubt that you would save the $40 in gas that the belt would cost you.

Message: Can't say as though I have noticed any better performance in the on day that I have driven since bypassing the AC. However since the clutch bearing went bad on my compressor and I don't feel like paying $500 for a compressor plus all the related expenses to recharge the system this was the best path for me. However I would have to agree the cost of the belt would take forever to be repaid by the saving in gas , most like would have to buy a new belt before the first one was ever paid for.

Message: The a/c clutch is avaiable from dodge for about $103. It is not hard to change if you have a manual and snap ring pliers.

Message: xmr, i think it's his bearing that was going out. is that part of the clutch? i don't think so. i believe you'd have to bevacuate the system, pull the clutch, then the bearing.

Message: Bearing went out of the clutch assembly. no listing through NAPA for anything but the entire pump with clutch. Never checked with the local dealer but since I wasn't able to talk to a service tech over the phone and their 25 miles away the bypass was the best way to go. Besides I won't need the AC for another 6 months here in Michigan.
