Subject: Son of a STARTER IP: Logged
Message: Went to start my truck today, and it started fine, but it sounded like something was grinding or winding in the engine compartment. I turned the truck off, but to my dismay, the starter was still turning and the key wasn't in the ignition, I had to pop the hood and disconnect the battery for it to stop turning. any help or suggestions would be vital to my return on the road.

Message: your solenoid has gone bad and is sticking.
its a cheap part, about 20-25 bucks at autozone and easy as heck to replace.
the only bad thing will be, if with the starter engaged...sometimes and actually pretty often it will knock teeth off the flywheel. hoepefully you got to it in time.

Message: It could be 3 things:
1. Starter relay (located in the power dist box under the hood) It could be "stuck" or shorted open. Check the relay for corrosion or damage.
2. Short in starting system on starter itself.
3. Ignition switch (highly unlikely)
If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Message: welp, after a little work, replaced the starter and solenoid, and fixed the problem, seems that the solenoid was shorted.
