I believe it's around 4500 to 5000 lbs, depends on if you have an auto or manual transmission.Call a dealer to find out for sure, personally I try to stay at about 4000 /4500 to be safe, but there have been posts for more.

I don't know what it is off the top of my head, but I know you can tow quite a bit with it. :0)

My truck holds the current Dodge Dakota 'how many hay bales in the bed' record at 24 full-sized bales. Drove about 4 miles like that, didn't go real fast, but it didn't complain too badly.

I know you can tow a 93 S-10 out of a ditch with it. :0D

It towed a tandem axle U-haul from Michigan to Florida full of furniture, with the bed filled to the top of the tonneu cover, at 80-85mph...

We towed a log with it once. That was fun! It was an ancient maple, about 50-60ft long and maybe 3-4ft diameter. Wrapped a chain around it, hooked it to the frame, towed away.

Uh, er, original question was how much can it tow? I dunno yet... I think it says in the manual somewhere?

My truck will tow about 5200.

92, auto, HD(that wouldn't change the towing capability, just what you can haul in the bed), LB, RC, 4x2

Hey Todd, I tried to pull a log and almost got stuck, so I just back into the log, didn't even scrach the bumper.

tried to pull my buddy's work van out of the mud too(don't ask how he got it there), but traction was a problem there too.

I tow a 26' Trail Lite travel trailer with a unloaded weight of 3815lbs. + extras with a 93 Dakota 3.9 V6 Ext. Cab 4X4. Tows the trailer fine but dies done a little on the long lower grade hills. Only additions are K&N FIPK, Jacobs RV Team Ignition System and Helix throttle body spacer. Next additions are V8 throttle body and Jet Stage 1 performance module.

Yeah, thats the singular problem, no traction. I had some sandbags in the back when I towed the S-10 and log. About 250lbs worth if I remember correctly, really made a difference. Although I -almost- didn't get the S10 out... the road was a sheet of ice-glass and he just slid off it. One heck of a ride I suppose, but I was proud how my little Dakota did. :0)

I don't know if it matters or not, but my truck came with the 17x8 tires, er, or whatever size is one size wider. :0) I need to get fender flares, my tires stick out nearly 3/4ths of an inch on all sides, so I get mud all over. Ah, well... look cool (when not muddy! Uh, heck, looks cool then too).

I have a '98, extended cab,4wd,standard. Hauled a 4,000 lb. sailboat with a 1500lb. trailer from Ft. Lauderdale to North Carolina last month. Had plenty of power, able to maintain 65-70 mph on I-95. Had to give myself plenty of room to stop though!

Even though this thread is almost 2 years old, sense someone else brought it back to the top I will report my figures.
2003 Dakota CC SXT, 3.9 v6, 4sp auto, 3:55, 16" wheel package, 5000lbs Class 3 hitch, Class A motorhome Trans Cooler... Max rated at 5000lbs.

I'm towing a 3000lbs camper with it. It does "OK", but thats it. It doesnt like hills of any kind. I drive in 3rd gear ( OD off ) and 60-65mph. Going up hills drops me down to 2nd gear and really starts winding the tach up, so I have to slow down to 50-55 ( dont want to hurt the motor ).
Thing to remember is wind resistance. A low trailer hauling heavy lumber, I think this Dak could handle 4000lbs more easily.
Also dont forget the rule of thumb for your tongue weight, 10%-15% of your gross trailer weight.

I have a 3.9 02 automatic trans quad cab i pull a 19t pioneer camping trailor that is about 4500 lbs with only stock stuff like fridge, air conditioner, stove. Add add the food,chairs,bikes,120lbs for propane and when i get to the campgrounds and fill with water 55galx8.3lbs per gallon =456.5lbs more it has got to be close to 5500. The 3.9 quad 2wd is rated for 4800 max but the truck pulls very well slows up hills but what dosent. I only carry water when i get to campgrounds not on the road.

FYI, the Quad with 3.9 is rated up to 4400 with the 3.55 rear axle. The 3.92 axle is rated up to 4800. The quad is carrying more curb weight than the regular or CC. A good thing to keep in mind when buying a truck for towing ability.

I towed 10 tons of rock on a 16 foot trailer once... About 300 miles. Wouldn't recommend that to anyone though. Had to replace the rear end a little while after that. LOL!
