Message: Has anyone put a normal desiel in their Dakota? Seems with gas prices and all a desiel would be better. Would it just be an engine swap or would other stuff have to be changed too?

Message: ive been toying with this idea myself.
a diesel has many advantages when it comes to fuel. best is that with a little know-how one can begin to make their own fuel.
ive never known anyone that put a diesel in a dak.
would be very interesting to say the least.

Message: Daddio is right, it is a dakota GEN-3 clubcab. I had the magazine that talked about all that the things the went thru to get the 5.9 diesel in the dak. They had to set the firewall back several inches and they ported the head for greater flow. put on a much bigger turbo than the factory one and bigger injectors and modified the engine management software. The spent consideral time developing an air dam and other aerodynamic tricks to make the truck faster. Then even removed the outside mirrirs. When they got done with the 5.9 liter diesel it was putting out over 700 horsepower and something like 1200 ft pounds of torque. They even set a speed record with that something like 212 mph. They raced a corvette with their diesel dakota and blew its doors off.
It would be neat to have someone ask you what you had under the hood and tell them, oh it's just a six cylinder 5.9 liter. They might look at you a little confused, since the daks some of the daks do have 5.9's in them.
92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.

Message: there is a diesel available for the Liberty that may work. it's a 4 banger. or, god forbid, you want to put a gm duramax in it. it will take a lot to be a daily driver.

Message: I have a friend who just got a turbo diesel Liberty, and that little 4 banger is quite peppy in the Liberty, and he gets around 28 miles to the gallon. I don't know how it'd perform in our heavier Dakotas, but I'm sure there's plenty of room for it.
