Subject: What to next that will really help IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99 and have done all the "cheap", "easy", mods like gibson exhaust, volant cold air, relocated IAT, 180 thermo, and venom chip. I think that ive done all the "computer" mods, my engine runs well, but it really lacks grunt. My acceleration is still lacking, and my top speed still lacks, (only hit gov. 117). What will give the best pro, for the time or money. I was going to do the flometrics tb, but my engine seems to breathe fine. I heard headers won't do much, and i don't want another chip. Should i go with a small nitrous system? I can't afford a supercharger. Any suggestions?

Message: 3.92s (or lower) and a limited slip if you don't have that already. Assuming you do, RT wheels are wider, might help hook you to the ground a little better. Headers probably won't do a whole lot. Nitrous is a good performance/dollar buy, but you're risking a lot there. Especially with a manual, it can be that much more dangerous. Of course the EFI kits are pretty accurate these days, and sneezing back into the intake manifold proably won't happen with a dry system. Still though, I wouldn't put nitrous in my daily-driver. There are also legal questions- your local laws regarding the use of Nitrous might make it a pretty sever crime to be caught with it. You really don't want any legal problems...

Message: I have and automatic, and 3.92. Will the tb really help, cause i put on the intake, which was meant for the 5.2 and it almost hurt my performance. Its almost like its too much air. (As you can tell im still kinda new to this stuff), plus i have and indirect ram air hood which channels down over (but doesn't connect) to my intake, although i don't know how much cold air gets there. I looked into getting a new differential, and i still might. But id have to cut and reweld my exhaust because it crosses right where the differential cover is.

Message: one last thing. is a tb really going to give noticable performance gains, cause the iat and the 180 seemed not to have given me any more perf. gains, and i only want to spend time/money on something which will really help, otherwise i work on other things

Message: i think it will help you in getting all that air your taking in though your intake to go though the manfold and though the valves and into that high profromance beast. the fastman throttle body cost $350 new and he is only asking $250. buy it or i will greg.
ps engine want do you have? Greg

Message: What do you mean what kind of condition is it in? It is on my truck right now so I would have to say it is used. I am selling it because I am selling my Dak, because I need to pay off some bills. It will be around a year or so befor I buy my next Dak and that will be a V8 most likely a 4.7 so the TB will do me no good. It is VERY easy to put on. I can take it off my truck and have my stock V6 one put back on in about a half an hour. If you never did it befor it may take an hour to do it. It is a F&B TB not a Fastman. You would also have to modify your air hat to fit on the TB but that to is not hard. Any more questions just let me know. I also have a used kind of cheep Cold air intake I might toss in if you want it, just the extra cost of shipping.

Message: greg, the only reason why the volant air intake might have hurt your performance is because you are trying to force more air(than stock box) into the 42mm holes in your stock V6 TB causing a LARGE amount of turbulance. If you put on a stock V8 TB(50mm) or a 48mm F&B or Fastman V6 TB then you minimize if not eliminate to turbulance, and increase you performance. Besides porting and polishing your manifold it is one of the best things you can do for more "grunt" in your engine.
If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Message: daveshotdako,
I sure if you cut the airhorns off and round out the throttlebody in-take bores of your throttle-body, it would flow very close to an F&B 48mm 660 cfm, right off of F&B's web site. I had a custom made 49mm throttle-body made about 2 years ago and the guy that did it claimed it flowed 711 cfm at standard test bench pressures. A standard v8 throttle body will flow at 630 cfm unmodified. If you removed the airhorns and rounded out the top you would even more. I know I have put an unmodified v8 TB on my truck and noticed a great improvement, then rounded out the TB bores after removing the air horns and noticed an improvement. Your 48mm TB would even work well on a 318. Going any bigger than a 48mm on a stock or lightly modified v6 will cause low end torque. If you use your truck towing don't go any bigger than 48mm.
Dave how would you like to try your hand at boring out a Throttle body for a v6 Chrysler Sebring. I will have to get the specifics I bought a spare for my wifes car and I have been looking for someone who has done this before. I have to get the specific plate and bore size I need. I think that the size is 56mm. I will have to confirm that.

Message: i could definately give it a try. i actually just bored another tb today. i mill the airhorns off, bore it straight through to 48mm, polish the bores to almost mirror finish, make new plates, and i even grind the shaft clost to the plates. 48mm is as big as i would go for a v6 because the bores on the intake of a magnum v6 is 47.5mm. so going any bigger wouldnt help anything. a v8 tb is 49mm but it still has the airhorns and torque step. if you would like for me to bore that sebring tb for you, e-mail me at davethomas2184@yahoo.com and we could work something out.
