 Subject: 99 dakota thump from under the hood

I was wandering if anyone could answer a question for me my dad bought a 99 dodge dakota brand new, we do not drive it very much it has less then 32,000 miles on it. There is a thump when the engine is running that can be heard clearly as well as felt clearlly from the driver side floor board (area under clutch pedel is felt most). It does not do it all the time it happenes when I am stoped and the engine is at idle as well as when i am driving (not idleing). It feels like something is hitting the frame of the truck from underneath the hood. I am not an expert but have put the truck on some ramps and looked at it. I dont see any missing or loose bolts that might cause the problem. I thought it may have been a motor mount or something it may have something to do with the steering but no major shakeing from the steering wheel. If anyone has any comments or ANY idea whats going on please message me back

The motor mount would have been my guess. You sure that's not it?
Maybe somebody else has some ideas.

While it's idleing take a 3 to 4 foot length of garden hose and put it up to you ear and move to different parts of the engine. This might help you locate the problem The garden hose is a poor man's stethoscope but it works.
92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.

Thank you guys for the ideas i am gonna take it to a friends dad saturday he used to workon and build cirt track cars so i thought what the hell see what he can tell me. the idea with the garden hose sounds great i might just have to try that. as soon as i find out whats wrong with that truck i will let everyone know thanks again
