 Subject: smelling radiator fluid

I have an 1999 Dakota Club cab with the 3.9 engine 4x4. I recently noticed when i have the cabin temperature gauge over to the hot side even with out the fans on the smell of Antifreeze. I recently replaced the water pump and the by-pass line( pain in the arss). Anyway, i see no leaks under the hood. Any thoughts would be helpfull.

if you're smelling it in the cab probably the heater core.

be careful.. i changed my heater and a/c core. had to take the whole dash out. here comes the funny part. my driveway is sloped. when i got the last bolt out to the dash dropped in my lap(i was on the passenger side) when it dropped. it pulled the shift lever down, which took it out of gear. now i;m sittin on the passenger side with a dash in my lap rolling down my driveway heading for my neighbors new ford truck. I stuck my foot over and somehow found the bake. i spent about 20 minutes yelling for somebody to help me. my neighbor finally came over and put the emergency brake on. So the moral of the story. when you take the dash out, make sure the wheels are chocked or your on a flat surface.

I was getting the smell of antifreeze, and it was the thermostat gasket that was leaking. Sometime I could smell it with the fan off or on. If you shine a flashlight down by the thermostat whenever you are smelling the antifreeze, you might see small leak. Good luck.

Usually u can smoke a joint and just forget about it. i found this works well with all my problems.haha!
