Subject: No need to buy a V8 throttle cable IP: Logged
Message: Thanks to all of the excellent info on these forums, I had an incredibly easy swap from my stock V6 throttle body to one from a V8. (got it from a junkyard, came off a 318 in a van)
One thing I noticed while searching this site was there were only a few mentions of keeping the butterfly shaft from the V6 tb. It's a very easy swap, and saved me from needing to purchase and install a V8 throttle cable. As someone said in a post, you can swap that shaft in less time than it takes to go get the V8 cable. I'm definately not a hot mechanic, and it was easy for me. The only stumble I had was when I found the larger butterflies from the V8 wouldn't fit in the V6 shaft, because the slot was a tad bit shorter. 30 seconds with a sawsall fixed that.
The new throttle body made a huge difference, especially on the highway. I don't seem to be suffering any noticable loss on the low end like some have reported. Big thanks to all of you who have posted all of the info I drew from.

While the tb is very easy to disassemble, the screws that hold the plates in place can be difficult to remove. I've only broken one screw but they do break fairly easily if you are not careful. Grinding or filing off the threaded portion that sticks out of the shaft and using some penetrating oil makes it go much easier.

Message: I'd be interested to see dyno pulls for both, with no other mods, just the TB swap. My but dyno didn't register a change. I switched tthe TB's back and didn't notice a change.
Personally, if the only mod being performed is the TB swap, I think it's a waste of time and money. For the cash i spent I could have had a Tornado, a TB spacer and a Type-R sticker for the tail gate.

Message: tee, if you added the Tornado, tb spacer and type R sticker, you'll lose hp and mileage from the added weight.

even if the TB didnt gain any, atleast it works and functions like it is supposed to. unlike the tornado, which kills fuel mileage due to turbulence, the TB spacer that does nothing at all.
the type r space would actually prolly gain ya about 35 hp

Message: According to Larry from J&J Auto, he has access to a dyno at a friend's shop. He has dynoed many of the mod on his own as well as others. The v8 throttle body should add approximately 15 to 18 hp. The F and B which is the most expensive will also give the most gains. The v6 throttle body flows approximately 630 cfm. The F and B approximately 660cfm. The opening on a stock v8 throttle body at the ridge above the plates are 47.5 mm. The F and B Throttle body plates are 48mm.
92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.
