I have a 2000 V6 dakota. For some reason, after it sits for a coulple hours, it has trouble starting. Once it's started it runs really rough for a minute or two. But once its going it runs fine. If I shut it off and restart it immediately, it starts up and runs perfectly. Any suggestions on what might be causing this to happen, because it has me stumped?

How is fuel mileage ? If deteriorated
= possible O2 sensor ( just in front of cat ).
Next I would think of other sensors
map, temp , IAT .
Also possible - have you cleaned the throttle body and IAC yet ? IAC is at back of throttle body ..

sounds like one or more leaky injectors.
do you get black smoke out the tailpipe at first start up. or it could be a bad check valve in the fuel pump assy.

on the first start of the morning, try turning the key to on, not start, for about 15 or 20 seconds to let the fuel pump pressure up the system then crank it. it should start right up.

try some Seafoam in the tank. it's a great fuel system cleaner.

I replaced the O2 sensor a couple months ago and there is no black smoke coming out of the tailpipe. I will check out the other suggestions you all made. Thanks for the help.

Fuel pressure regulator like daddio said. Did you check fuel pressure at the rail? Attach pressure gauge to schrader valve on rail, and turn key on, pressure should be between 35-50 psi. Turn key off, if the pressure IMMEDIATELY drops off or drops off completely within 5 minutes, it is an indication of the pressure regulator...which of course is located inside the fuel tank.

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.
