Message: I got a 97 dakota 3.9 2WD red beauty. When I shift from park to any different gear everything is fine. Also when I shift to any other gear OTHER than park everything is fine. When I shift into park the engine rpm's go way down to where sometimes the engine justs dies.
Not sure what it might be. Transmission mayde? Had the transmission serviced about 18 months and 2 months ago. It still does the same thing. And its starting to tick me off.
Any help, info, and I would extremely thankful.

Message: i had a problem like that. the rpms would get real low. had to keep my foot on the gas so it wouldn't stall..turned out to be the heat sensor was bad behind the small radiator hose on the intake manifold. changed it and the problem disappeared.

Message: I have a 99 3.9L 2wd and for the longest time about 6 months/a year my truck would do that exact same thing that Ryans truck was doing. Finaly one day I was at a red light it turned green I started to go and my truck just shut off. I started it back up and it drove, but it sounded funny and the check engine light came on. Had that checked out and it came back as a speed out put sensor? Never heard of it befors, but I paid about $120 or so to get aprantly two of them changed, because there are two of them and there is only on code for the both of them. After that was changed my truck never did the low RPM/shut off by itself when you put it in to park thing. So you might want to check the SPEED OUTPUT SENSOR out, I guess it isn't that hard to change.
But I never thought to ask for the parts back that is a real good idea. I will definatly do that from now on.
