Subject: 94 3.9 timing chain IP: Logged
Message: I have a 94 3.9 in my dak and I'm about to replace the radiator and figure I might as well put a new chain in it while Im at it(90,000 miles). I'm a little confused on what chain to get.
Do I need a tensioner?
Do I need to replace the oil slinger?
What gaskets will be required?
I hate making mutliple trips to the parts store during a job so I would like to have everything ready. I would rather get parts at a local store rather than order online if possible...

Message: i'd recomend spending a few extra bucks on a good
"true double roller" chain
Cloyes is great
they last far longer and keep better timing
also "true roller" chains reduce drag on the engine. if you cant find one local
Jegs or Summit can get you hooked up

Message: mopar sells a timing chain tensioner which mounts in place of the cam thrust plate. It installs easy, and will almost guarantee perfect timing and great longevity. It goes for around $40; you'll grenade your engine before the timing chain breaks again.

Message: Does anyone know if the 2000 3.9 has a double roller and tensioner from the factory. It is in a 2000 Dakota.
