Message: that engine should go at least 200k with regular maintenance. i wouldn't worry about anything unless your timing chain getting noisy.

Message: If the engines go 200,000 how long should the transmission last on a truck that has never towed anything.

Message: I dont know if you guys know, but Burlington northern railroad used to use dakotas as service trucks. they would retire them a little after 200k. now to us, that would be well over 200k. cause the guys that work with the B and N generally beat the piss out of em. I know, my brother works for em.

Message: These motors are notorious for having sludge problems. The pan in the intake leakes and causes increased sludge formation. At whatever milage of buyging one of these trucks again, I would pull the pan and clean out sludge and the oil pump intake screen at least every 100K. You are at 138K, so I would pull the pan and see what you have going on down there. Pull the bearing caps at the same time you have the pan out and if your seeing copper or if the babbit is looking hammered, I would replace the main bearings then.
When I pull the pan on mine with 170K, I was rewarded with more than one handfull of sludgy crap in the bottom of the pan. The pickup screen appeared to be a little less than half plugged up. Cleaning all of this up rewarded me with 8-10 psi more oil pressure.
