Has anyone or does anyone know if the R/T rear end will fit in the 3.9 shortbed trucks? I'd like to put in the R/T rear end for a few reasons (mainly disc brakes and posi). If anyone has any info on this, please let me know.

depends on the year of your dak. the gen3 daks are slightly wider than the gen1 and 2. but the rear end will still fit. you can also use a rear end out of a B or C body mopar. they fit perfectly under dakotas.

sorry, i ment a B or E body, a C body rear end is around 2 or 3 inches longer but can work.

you don't need to find an R/T. i believe in '03 daks came with rear disc standard. just find one with LSD and if your truck is '97 - up, you're set.

Just put a posi in your rear end. they are about 450 bucks for a good locker, you can put it in anything, rear discs can be a conversion or check to see what the difference is between the newer dak's and the gen 2 rear ends. being a 96 you have the gen 2 body style so it would be narrower according to bigblock. Posi really is nice on these trucks...I have a stock unit. Really makes it fun on wet pavement.
