Message: well, you could always put a compresser on the oil lines and pop it off with pressure... actually, don't do that, I was just joking... I don't have any clues for ya, I would probably have to see it to think of something.

Message: i have had this happen before as well on a buddys dakota. we ended up taking a stout screw driver and driving it through the oil filter and using it for leverage. sounds like the last person who put the filter on overtightened it and/or forgot to smear some oil on the rubber gasket to keep it from melting to the engine. i hope this info helps.

Message: A friend had this problem once with a used car he bought. First oil change, the filter wrench bent and snapped. He tried a cap wrench - rounded and slipped. He tried a chain band wrench - it crushed the filter. He tried the screwdriver trick - it peeled the filter apart, leaving the base behind. Now panic-stricken, he finally pried the edge of the base up with a screwdriver and got tin snips in there, and trimmed til he just about reached the center, and broke the base off. Luckily the threads were undamaged. So try the screwdriver to lift the base and then use tin snips (or a dremel tool and cutoff wheel).

Message: take a cutting torch to it, also to the rest of the dam thing. dakota's are nothing but junk from what i've been reading on here. i have a chevy and it's been flawless from the day it came off the dealers lot! it now has 200,130 miles all from me driving it and no one else, so morel of the story, drive the thing yourself and tell others to ****off and it'll never be damaged!

Message: can't you feel the love??????????? hater, i hope you & your chebbie have a long and lasting relation.
anyway, whatever you do be careful of the mating surface for the oil filter to block. you don't want to damage it.
