I have a 96' 3.9L RC 5 speed short bed dak and I'm having some tranny problems, only thing is, I'm not sure which tranny i have... i looked into it and there's three different types of trannys, the ax15, nv3500 and then the nv4500.. Anyway of telling which tranny i have?

Inside the glove compartment or inside the engine compartment there will be a badge/label plate. Mine is the AX-15.
If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

I am willing to say you have the ax-15. If I remember right they didn't put the nv3500 in until at least 96-above.

I second the glovebox notion- that's about the only thing the damn glovebox is good for in the Dakota too! It's so frickin tiny it's not even funny! It only fits the ownders manual and a cellphone car charger and it's full!
