i got a 2002 3.9 v6 magnum dakota with low miles and no mods. my friend just a 95 5.2 v8 magnum 1500 reg cab 150,000 miles, just got tranny rebuilt and needs tune up bad. he says he can beat me before he even gets a tune up. im lighter but hes got more power we'll end up seein for sure soon but what do yall think?

unfortunatley even though our dakotas are lighter (not by much) our v6ers are way underpowered. a stock magnum v6 dakota with an auto has about 125 horsepower at the rear wheels. that still doesnt keep us from trying to beat them though. let us know what happens if yall race.

Is his 4wd or 2wd? If it's 4wd you should be able to beat him. If not it should be a good race. Before I got my dakota I raced my buddy in his 98 Ram 5.2 Extra Cab 4wd and I had a '91 Nissan V6 Ext. Cab 4wd and I had him the whole time. He even beat me off the line and as soon as I hit 2nd I was gone. I think my Daks faster than my old Nissan but I could be wrong. BTW my Nissan had 318,000 miles on it too.

I concur with Adam's analysis. Generally in my experience a 1500 Ram with 5.2 is a clumsy beast, unable to get out of its own way. Being that the Ram is a '95 should give you the advantage of superior electronic controls too.

were gunna find out in a little while. both trucks are 2wd and reg cab but his truck has pretty big tires. it was jumping real bad at 50 mph but we put spark plugs in it yesterday, fixed it right up. and hes pretty dumb so he'll proably forget to turn off the overdrive. i'll let you know how it goes.

yea but if you want to know the truth of which truck is really better, i recomend reminding him. at least if you win, you will know yours is faster. in my opinion, trucks are for work, towing, etc. not racing.

I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!! we raced 3 Times before he threw in the towel cause he was buring too much fuel. I beat him every time. I only won by 1 1/2 car length but at least i get braging rights. I do agree with jayb though. i dont doubt his truck could out tow mine or anything but that was not the disagreement. he thought just because hes got 2 more cylinders he can blow me out of the water...im sure as we start screwing with our trucks there will be more races to come so ill keep you posted. thanks for the imput
