Subject: Rubber plugs in front + rear Diff?
IP: Logged

Message:
Hello everyone i have a 1994 Dakota 4x4 slt ext cab with a 3.9 auto trans.I have noticed that the front and rear differential plugs that are rubber have started to leak a little as specialy when the wheather is realy coold like -30 F.What a stupid idea of Dodge designing a rubber diff plug when it should be steal eh!Any ways would just replaceing these plugs with new ones do the trick as the old plugs might have shrunk? Also is it normal for the front Diff an this 4x4 Dak to have more gear oil in it as when i took the plug out the oil gushed out till it was eaven with the plug.I thought that as long as the oil is eaven with the plug that this was the right level? And i took the plug out when the diff was cold? Thanks a bunch to anyone that can offer advice yours truely shrewster56.

The reason why it is leaking is there is too much fluid in the differential just pull the plug and let it drain out and that should help i like to keep mine about a 1/4 below the Check Plug gives it room for the Fluid to expand. But most people just fill it up to the top of the check and thats when you start getting leaks
