Message: On my 92 Dakota, they had put a new chain and gears on but they hadn't bothered to check the 'oil slinger' that is behind the chain. I think that's what does the oiling. Apparently the original chain ate up the sheetmetal of the slinger because it was so sloppy, the guy that installed the new chain didn't notice or didn't care, and the new chain died an early death. You eliminate the oil slinger with the tensioner upgrade, so if you dig in again, do the tensioner and you'll be good.
