Subject: Underdrive pully kit IP: Logged
Message: Ok I went to summit to look for a kit and I found a couple. If I'm not too specific (year not given) I come up with a kit that has 3 pullies for $122 (Crank, Water, and Alt). But if I include the year I come up with 2 sets. One from jet that has crank and alt. pully for $200.
And another from ASP for $50 but it's just for the Crank. What's with the differences? Does the water pump pully not come off with certain years? Also is running just the crank pully still give you gains, because $50 isn't bad if it'll still gives me about the same gain and I wont have to worry about charging probs with the Alt. I plan on running an electric fan sometime in the future. Thanks.

Message: The Crank pulley is all you need. With that, you will have to change your drive belt from a 7 rib to a 6 rib along with the length. If you go with the 2 pulley set ( Alternator and Crank), you will still have the same drive belt change over. the only issue with using the alternator pulley I had was that at idle my voltage dropped really low and at night, my lights at idle got real dim.
With the three pulley set, you don't have to change out your drive belt size. The water pump pulley compensates for the smaller size of the crank pulley.
I run the crank pulley only. tossed out the alternator pulley.
Hope this helps.

Another thing is I don't know about the water pully. Because if I put the year of truck in along with my search it doesn't offer the water pully as a replacement, only crank and alt. I've decided that if I the water pully isn't an option I will just go with the crank pully because I dont want to come along any charging issues. Also I'll only go with that if there's any gains from running the Crank if not I'll do with out. If I need all 3 or 2 to see some gains I'm not going to deal with it.

Message: Of all the mods I have done, it was the least noticeable as far as Wow what a difference is concerned. There are many other mods that have an impact on power and performance that I would put the pulley as a mod to get around to as a group upgrade. I did the crank pulley the same time I replaced the clutch fan with a Black Magic 150 electric fan and 180 degree TSTAT.
