Subject: Engine Speed Sensor IP: Logged
Message: Does my 91 V6 3.9L DAK have an engine speed sensor (RPM) and if yes where is it located? I suspect faulty communications of RPM's to computer which causes engine shut down. No computer error codes.

Possible wiring problem ?
Have you checked , repaired the ' splice '
about 8 to 10 inches down the harness from the underhood fusebox ?

Message: Within first 20 minutes of cold engine starting:
1) Sometimes it takes a few tries to crank engine.
2) Engine will instantly shut off without warning or error indications.
3) When engine shuts off, I'm mostly able to recrank without problems.
4) When engine does'nt want to crank or when it shuts off, the RPM gauge will instantly go to zero and not move.
5) When engine will crank, the RPM gauge will move while cranking.
6) Once engine is good and hot, there is no problem with cranking and shuting off.
I have'nt checked the fusebox harness splice. I will look into that.
It does look like a bad connection that becomes a problem with temperature changes during warm up.
Thanks for your help.

Message: I've checked and resolderd the splice that connects the Auto Shut Down fuse, relay, and PCM. It's Red/White wire. Did not solve problem.
I've read about problems with speed sensor. My ANTI LOCK and BRAKE warning lights do stay on but my brakes and speedometer work fine.
Any suggestions?

Message: Try turning the key on/off/on/off/on and see if any codes come
up. They will display in the odometer as PXXXX and when it's
finished it will display Pdone. Post back on what happens.
