Message: Just finished off another tank and it got a whopping 10.2 mpg. I drive like a old grandpa. Tires all have 35 psi in them and are checked weekly. Truck has new plugs, wires, cpa and rotor and a clean k&n. I talked to a guy who used to run a shop and he thinks it may have a bad o2 sensor or map sensor. I love this truck but paying $100 for gas for a week is killing me. I think I am going to get it scanned at the dealer but I do not see how the mpg could go from 20 to 10 and a check engine light did not come on.

Message: Why trade the truck in because you are getting bad gas mileage. If you were getting about 20 before this started, it sounds like a sensor probably gone bad. As you may have have a bad O2 sensor or 2. Even if you have to take to a shop and have it done, still far cheaper than buying another truck. Bullet you posted " I talked to a guy who used to run a shop and he thinks it may have a bad o2 sensor or map sensor. I love this truck but paying $100 for gas for a week is killing" Your friend who use to run a shop could be right about the map sensor. Would you really trade your truck your in when what you most like has a bad sensor. If the mileage come back up it wont take long to pay for the sensor change. Besides if the O2 sensor is bad and you let it go long enough it could ruin your catalytic convertor. Get off the dime and have those sensors looked at. Report back what you find out. Thats what this board is about, you have others here who are trying to help you out.

Message: Why trade in the truck ?
Hmm where do I start.
I have a v6 that gets 10mpg.
To fix it I am looking at $70 for the dealer to scan it plus parts even if I fix it myself. If it is an o2 sensor chances are the other 3 will fail soon, so now I am spending $400 on o2 sensors plus $70 to scan it. Next lets fix the wheel bearing that went out at 60k. There's another $125. Did I mention that the $600 set of yokohomas that I just put on there 15 months and 20,000 miles ago are already worn out ? Now lets align it after putting new hubs on it. Then lets get to the radio and the blown front speakers that short out everytime I turn the radio on. And let's not forget the front brakes and rotors for another $100
So to fix this truck I am looking at
Gas mileage 470
Tires 600
Front speakers 200
Alignment 50
Wheel bearing hub 125
front brakes 100
$1550
Now let's look at what I have spent in the past 15 months
tires 600
Sparkplugs 20
Cap and rotor 10
Wheel bearing 125
So this truck will cost me $2305 over the past 15 months or $150 ish a month in maintenance if I keep it.

Message: Yeah, why repair anything at all? I think the next time my truck needs more than a tune up I should trade it in - think of all the money I'll save.
[SARCASM MODE: OFF]
If you can get another truck for your trade in + $1550 out-the-door that has no problems and an extended warranty then by all means go for it.

Message: bullet,
Find an independent shop that you can deal with, most of the time the dealer charges inflated prices. They wanted to charge 3 times the price of an independent shop in my area for a front end alignment. Ask around somebody in your area should be able to help you find a good shop.

Message: Still driving this POS around and as of yesterday the mileage checked in at 9.7 MPG. I think I am going to just buy 2 new pre cat O2 sensors and see what happens.

Message: Finally got it fixed.
It was the wheel bearing on the drivers side.
I did not think excessive friction could make such a difference in m.p.g. but yesterday I put a new hub on it along with new brake pads and rotors and after driving 220 miles my m.p.g is now 18.

Message: sounds like you're a hard learner. Beta luck next time. However, if you stick with it the truck might surprise you. Then again maybe mine just grew on me :)
