What problem does error code PO601 indicate on a 2001 6 cylinder automatic Dodge Dakota with 35,000 original miles ? If you know, can you reply with valid information and what it might cost to repar the problem. In addition, occasionally the sensor light goes off.This problem has just recently happened this week.

Try resetting the computer by disconnecting the
negative battery cable from the battery for a few minutes .
While at this , clean the battery terminals
wire brush , or similar

Hi Dan,
Thanks for your advice. I took it to the dealer. They said it had to do with emissions, and that it is still covered under my warantee. I won't have to pay to have that computer related problem repaired. I do need new brakes and some kind of control vent for my heater though.

I am also getting this code on my 02 QC 4x4. I am told that I need a new pcm or ecm (not sure which one or if they are the same). Dealer wants $1176 to replace! Just spent a buttload of money on rebuilt tranny and tune up, so this will kill me. Anyone know where it is located, I have a found a used one for $165 and would like to replace myself. When I do this, do I have to have it reprogrammed? Any help would be appreciated.

I can't see what memory check sum error has to do with emission. It means that you have problem inside the PCM, though it could be intermittent, like some noise on the memory bus. But if dealer is replacing it for whatever reason, then OK.
Tucker, $1176 to replace PCM/ECU is way too much. You can find a new one for $300-400.

Thanks for your response. Where can I purchase one for 300-400? I remember seeing something like this, but can't find the post. Is this something I can do myself? Will I need to have it programmed after installation (dealer is only to do this, hate to give them more money) Thanks for your help

look at http://www.mydodgeparts.com/ under OEM parts, under electrical/powertrain control/ecm . I'm not sure about programming but I'd assume it comes with default programming.

I just had my "mechanic" (and I use that term very hesitantly) put
my refurbed pcm in my 02 Dakota 3.9 (I just replaced the engine).
Code 601 appeared with a check engine light. Auto-computer
exchange is great to deal with so far. I will soon find out if the pcm
is bad or the guy at the shop screwed that up too (along with the
other things he screwed up).

2002 dakato. i had my pcm rebuilt last year cause it said replace it code po601...ok for i year...the light came on again reading po60i an it said replace pcm again.what is the deal with this.christler charges to dam much money to have this done and now have it done again.what should i do.help
