Subject: TPS MOD and Error
IP: Logged

Message:
Ok, I have done the search and cant find the exact answer I am looking for.....
I did the TPS mod yesterday and set the voltage at EXACTLY 0.750V As soon as I got in the truck to try it out check engine light came on, so I backed it off to 0.063V which is what it was set at to begin with. Same thing. Error code was for TPS. So I figured I must have damaged the TPS in drilling out the brass inserts so I replaced it with a new one and MIL light is gone. Better throttle response with the new sensor. Any ideas? I'd like to do the mod but it may have to for-go the idea.
Thanks.

The mod will NOT damage the TPS. Reinstalling it incorrectly may. Setting voltage at .75 will NOT case a code.

my manual says that when ever you check the voltage on the tps it will show a code that you can clear by disconecting the battery for a while or just drive it and the code will go away after 20 or so starts. Daddio also has said that you can clear the code by disconecting the pcm connectro closest to the firewall. I have never tried it but you would have to be careful not to damage the conecting pins.

The only way you will get a code while checking the TPS is if you disconnect it before or while the engine is running. You should leave it connected, start the engine and then back probe it. Never disconnect it while the engine is running. If you get CEL it will eventually clear itself. This usually takes three starts and stops.

Personal experience...you will trip a light with the key in the ON position(engine not running) if you disconnect the TPS as well.

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

cuzindoug is right. Either way you will get a P0123 code.
