Message: Curb weights vary, depending on the wheelbase and drivetrains. The base engine 2WD starts with a curb weight of 2885 lbs. The max weight is just over 3700 lbs.
GVWR varies from 4170-5860 lbs, again, depending on how it's equipped. These numbers come from the 1989 FSM, but they should be comparable to an '87. So, to be more specific, how is the Dakota in question equipped?

Message: Its the 4x4. They only came with the 3.9 and reg cab with 8'box. The sticker shows the gvwr as 5010lbs. The curb weight would be nice to know but What I really need is the gcvwr so I can calculate how heavy of a trailer I can tow legally.

Message: Okay. Now there are some differences, but this should narrow it down for you. For a V6 4WD it depends on the gearing and tranny to determine max trailer weight:
With 5spd/2.9 axle.......2250lbs tongue wt 300 GCWR (5600)
Auto/2.9...............2500lbs tongue wt 400 GCWR (6000)
5spd/3.5 axle.......3500lbs tongue wt 500 GCWR (7000)
Auto/3.5...............5200lbs tongue wt 700 GCWR (9200)
Again, these are from the '89 FSM and may be just a smidge higher than the '87 (due to the '87 being carbureted), but not much, and this should give you a good ballpark estimate.
