Subject: Temp sensor locations?
IP: Logged

Message:
I read Larrys sensor locations post but still am confused as to the location of the second temp sensor.
Info taken from forums:
http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/v6/6150.html
http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/v6/7287.html

It may be that i have a 2002 quad cab 3.9 v6 4X4 but some how u doubt it.

I found a 2 wire sensor but its on the left side of the thermostat(behind the alternator) Thats the only temp sensor other then the IAT on the manifold(ive had the manifold off previously to know this 100%)
My temp guage seems to read accurately so im assuming theres another engine temp sensor that i havent found.
Right now the ohms is 3,120 at 90F.
Larrys ohm table shows that the temp sensor is saying its around 130F. Maybe im doing it wrong cause all i did was probe the wires of the plug going into the sensor

Im asking if all this is right before i go out and spend some money and replace something that may have not needed it.

Thank you.

I don't think that the Gen 111's have two sensors. I have had my manifold off and there was only one sensor. I suspect that they combined them when they went to obd2.

Hmmm... So would it be safe to assume the ohm ranges changed also?

Thanks

No, on vehicles with 2 sensors, One sensor is designated for the PCM(2 wire sensor), and the other(single wire sensor)is designated for the dash light. Larry's table will still be correct. They(Dodge) stopped installing the single wire sensor but the 2 wire sensor is still the same.(economical)

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

The temp sensor may have read hot when it was cold (also when it ran the best)But when fully warmed up it read in the 194 range according to Larrys graph.(results were taken with engine idling and electric fan on) That should be in range considering i have 180 state and have removed the belt driven fan.

I think i found the horrible hesitation though. I was under the hood and noticed my air filter gets freaken hot. Its one of those big diesel paper filters with steel mesh inside and out... I blew air inside one end and noticed it came out the other end super heated!!!

Thats going to be a challenge to overcome.
Any suggestions in the material that would be best to plumb cold air into the engine with?
