Message: My 1996 V6 with the A500 or A518 has decided not to shift out of 3rd gear at any speed. I am able to put it in park and in reverse, but no 1st or 2nd gear at all. This was an overnight thing, it ran fine yesterday.
I have recently replaced the throttle position sensor (TPS) about 3 months ago to fix an emission problem then I had to replace the ECU at the same time because the TPS did not correct the problem, but the new ECU did.
Does anybody have any ideas?

Message: pull the pan and look at the fluid and look for shavings, a good indicator of if you are screwed...I had a half inch of metal in mine when my torque converter killed the rest of my transmission....A500....$1620

Message: Several.
Aside from low fluid or misadjusted gearshift linkage....
Burnt real clutch, valve body malfunction, broken overrunning clutch, worn/damaged input shaft seal rings, failed front planetary, stuck governor valve, governor circuit electrical fault, front band linkage malfunction, or the front servo piston is cocked in it's bore.
First on my list would be the burnt rear clutch, second would be the cocked servo piston, third would be the valve body malfunction.
