Message: Do a body lift and it's not really that hard at all. I'm 19 and did it by myself. For 2 ppl shouldn't really take any longer then a day. My lift cost me $212 from suspensionconnection.com
But I also dont know about your application because I have a 2000 but I figure all body lifts are gonna be about the same. You can go with a suspension lift but it'll cost ya.

Message: If you really want to do a good job and do it correctly you will want to do a solid axle conversion. That is the only way these trucks really perform well with a lift. Otherwise you will be looking at buying a kit and those are pretty costly. There is always the cranking up the torsion bars and putting lift blocks in the rear. But stay away from the body lifts, those don't do anything for you but looks. (and they make the bumper look goofy because it is too low.

Message: okay...two different 93dakotas here....
1) The lfit kit SHOULD come with the adapters to lift the bumper as well. (PA does).
2) As Adam can tell you, it's not exactly "easy" to do by yourself. Havindg your Dad help will make it a little easier.
3) IIRC, PA still makes the bodylift for the 93...granted, I haven't looked in while.
Good Luck!!!

Message: honestly, what does a body lift do for you...you are able to clear larger tires with the body, but you still cant fit them at full lock turn. It doesn't increase ground clearance. What is the point in throwing money away for a body lift?

Message: with bigger tires u gain ground clearance, may be minimal but every inch counts. But yea that's about it. Also it doens't effect your suspension at all so you get the stock ride.

Message: Sorry for hating on you guys with the body lifts but my philosophy is if you aren't going to do it right don't do it at all. Its my personal opinion that the body lifts are a waste and do not gain you anything offroad. My advice to "93dakota" is to save his money and buy either a professionally built suspension lift or do a solid axle conversion and lift springs for the rear. Either way, good luck to all you guys I am just glad you opted for the 4x4 (its the only way to go)

Message: Well, let's see....total cost of body lift is around $250.
The advantage isn't just the additional wheel size and subsequent clearance from the ground.
You can run a standard "ring" air filter under the hood instead of the "goofy tube" as we call them. (3 add'l inches of clearance).
Also, it allows more of the radiator to be exposed to airflow that was earlier covered by the bumper.
Take a look around these forums for the guys who spend more than that amount lowering their trucks. What did they accomplish??
I see it as money well spent.

Message: Spend the extra money on the suspension lift...gives you a lot more bragging rights...and if that ain't enough, do a suspension lift and THEN a body lift.
And guess what...you can still get rid of the "goofy tube" even without the body lift.

Nice!!
The advantage with the 3" increase is that your engine air intake will be cooler because of the added clearance.
When compared to the $600+ for a new hood, you can see the difference.
I ran just the BL for well over a year.
Engine ran cooler, as well as better gas mileage (haven't been able to figure that out, but the numbers don't lie)
Of course, once the suspension and 33's went on...well...gas mileage went to sh*t....

Message: I guess you got a point there...was gonna say get a hood, but you're right on the price. I got a cowl induction hood through a group buy for $400/shipped but I'm still waiting til I can afford to have it painted.

Message: Well the good thing about a body lift is that it's cheaper. I can run bigger tires and I was able to do it my self. Crappy thing is, is that I just bought my 32's a couple months ago and still owe 500 on them...so 33's wont be comming anytime soon. I would rather have gotten a Suspension Lift but I didn't have the $ for it so I did what I could. A suspension lift will be comming around probably within the next year. Now it's all about power.

hey for an 88 there isnt a suspension lift they used a tortion bar suspension so body lift is the way to go or crank the tortion key to the top but thats pretty minimal height good luck man!
