Message: I have a 2000 3.9L 4WD Dak running close to 100K, and I'm stumped. A while back (not certain exactly when) I began experiencing a Vibrational Issue. When I hit about 65 or so, I would get this vibration (the origin of which I can't pinpoint) as if I was running over enormous wake-up strips. It would escalate until about 75, at which point, BAM! It would just drop out. No fade-out or anything, just a hard stop. The problem is still there, but the I/O points have dropped to 55/65, leading me to think that whatever it is, it has gotten looser (but what do I know?). A friend of mine at work recently let me know that he believes I have an exhaust leak, due to the extra-throaty sound when I start up. My exhaust is completely stock. I did recently (this past winter) have both the CAT and muffler replaced. Could something have been insufficiently tightened in this assembly and be causing this problem now? I've been under the truck, and can see no obvious holes in my exhaust system.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Message: Is it vibration? Or is it a shimmy? If this only happens at high speeds, then it is probably a balancing issue. Maybe the driveshaft, or tires, or brake rotors.

Message: Don't know the difference. If you're referring to e perceived "direction", i.e., up/down vs. L/R, I can't really tell.

Message: I had a lot of vibration till I switched tires and balanced them. Then it was smooth sailing from there

Message: what he really has is a fat butted ol lady that flatens the tires completely when she is in the truck, the vibration happens when the tires are turnin so fast that they are trying to go to a round condition instead of flat but they just cant make it. they finally give up at a higher speed and and the vibration goes away,
solution,,, get rid of Heavy Evie.
