Message: I have a 3.9 98 V6 Dakota and I'm having either a fuel or electrical prob so I'll describe the symptoms and maybe someoone can help. Well just recently the truck started to idle funny. Plus when I drive it kind of stutters in a way that I lose power and have to open the throttle all of the way to get it going normal again. It was minimal at first but now its getting worse. I replaced the fuel pump thinking that was it. Before I replaced my pump the check engine light came on. But since I disconnected the battery it reset the computer and didn't come back on right away. Maybe after a 30 minute drive after replacing the pump the stuttering happened again and the light came back on. I examined the pump and nothing was wrong and reinstalled it. The light has yet to come on but the stuttering is at its worst. I haven't had the spare cash to scan the code yet but I figured maybe there was another way of finding out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thx.

Message: You don't have to have spare cash, either do the on-off-on-off-on(key) and look at check engine light/odometer, or if you want detailed, take the truck to advanced auto/pepboys/etc and they will scan it for you and print out the code. How many miles do you have on the truck?

Message: i am not sure if the key on-off thing works on a '98 but, AutoZone will scan for codes for free.
that problem could be a few things.
Have you tuned it recently? scan for codes and post back.

Message: I have about 118,000. Oh yeah, what I said about the stuttering. It goes away after 15-20 minutes of driving. I'll bring it to Autozone as soon as the light comes back on.
