Subject: 1988 v6 started problems IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1988 dakota with a 3.9 v6 tbi. The problem started with the engien having a problem starting. You can hear the starter going but the engien does not turn over at all. Eventally the engien would start. But when driving the engien would just die, there would be no coughing like lack of fuel it would just stop. The next day the engien would not start at all. I have no ideas what could be doing this so any sigestions would be a big help. Is it fuel related or distributar related?
Thanks for any help.

Message: Have you checked the distributor at all? Did you fill up with a bad tank of dirty gasoline? Is your computer fastened tightly or has it come loose? What about your spark plug wires or your coil?

Message: I have a 1992 dodge Dakota v6 the problem is that the truck was running ok then I turned it of to go in to the store and the truck wouldn’t start when I came out. The engine sounds like explosions out the exhaust when I try to turn it on. I had the timing belt replaced but that was not the problem. I have no ideas what could be doing this so any sigestions would be a big help.

Message: Miguel Rincon,
Is there a check engine light on the dash coming on? Do you know much about cars or engines, if you could be a little moe descriptive it might help. Under what you just said it could be a lot of different things. You need to be able to isolate it a little more to make an accurate guess, but mine would be fuel related first off IE: clogged fuel filter, then sensors or components that help run the computer and fuel/air mixture... IE: IAC, TPS. Either way it doesn't sound like it is too major, and if you can't figure it out a good mechanic could for I would guess under $700. At least that has been my experience. Hope this helps.

Message: I dont know if there is a check engine because the truck wont start and it needs to start for the dash to turn on. i dont know much about engines but i took it to the mechanic and they said that it was the timming belt but they put it on jesturday and they called me and said that it still doesnt start, they told me that they dont know what it could be but it might be a broken piston do you think that thats the problem or any sigestions
