Hi Gunner
"Does anyone think that the stock 175 HP/225 TQ V6 can be boosted to around 250 HP/300 TQ?"

ok the 3.9's are 239 C.I.'s
now 1 horse per cube is pretty easy to reach
going a bit past it wont take much morethe 300 lbs of TQ i wouldnt know

we got a regular on here with a stroker 3.9
he's posted his dyno #'s a few times
see if you can find one of the posts
(i think it's Larry of J&J auto)

my best answer would be do what you have listed so far dyno then see where you are
if your not there or close to it
reaching your overall goal from there might be as easy as a cam (with the 1.7 RR's)

Also remember that the 175/225 numbers are BHP not taken at the rear wheels. So you probably have 25 less horse power at the wheels than you think. Just wanted to make sure you knew that, and weren't scared when you dyno your truck the first time and probably get less than 175 at the wheels....

I've heard with V6 autos it's around 125hp at the wheels...never checked it myself so I don't have a clue if it's correct or not.

i think a good rule of thumb is
autos = 20-25% drivetrain loss
manual = 10-15% drivetrain loss

Hmmm.... these posts are making me depressed. My truck could only be making 125 HP at the wheels...wow...I have a long ways to go to make my goal. But, oh well, I'll give it my best shot!

hey if you got the cash spend on a drive shaft
and good syn fluids in the tranny and rear end and you can lower the loss

(Alum, Stainless)
& hell maybe even carbon fiber these days! LOL

i wouldnt even know what a good alum. drive shaft would cost nowadays
but Dam when i changed over to one in my old firebird what a differance

Gunner, I have a 97 3.9 TB you can have if you want to send it out to get it machined. But personally, I say go to the junk yard and look for a 5.2 TB in a Dak, Ram or Ram Van. Just let me know if you want it.

Thanks a lot. I was kinda hoping that you were just busy and hadn't forgotten ;-) Not that I was wanting you to work your butt off, but you know what I mean.

Anyway, I just sent out the sponsorship letters today to 10 different companies requesting that they sponsor my senior project by giving me discounts, donating parts, etc. I included a letter from me, a letter from my shop teacher, and a project summary.

Before I wrote the letters, I called all of the companies on my list to get their addresses and to see who the letter should be sent to. So, I call THE FASTMAN and tell him about my project and how I would like him to sponsor me. He says to me:

"You see the Dakota on my webpage? Well, I never got any free parts for it when I was building it. So, I'm not really interested in sponsoring you or giving you free parts."

What a jack@ss! I will never buy anything from his company EVER. I would rather pay the extra money for the F&B TB than give money to that jerk.

Tb should be to you Friday or Saturday, I included an IAC valve and a MAP sensor. They are the old ones that I replaced trying to figure out a problem. They work fine.

Well, here's an update on my project so far. One of my sponsorship letters has succeeded. Royal Purple got back to me and is sending me Royal Purple Motor Oil, Max Gear Synthetic Gear Oil, Max EZ Power Steering Fluid, Purple Ice Radiator Additive, and Syncromax Transfer Case Fluid. They have been very easy to work with and I highly recommend their products.

Dang...they just saved you a buttload as far as switching to all synthetics goes! I think they're right up towards the top of the list of best brands as well.
