Subject: Gears and Posi IP: Logged
Message: Okay, I've got the cash to get my pegleg going on both wheels. So I need to find the best prices. I figured I'd go with the Auburn Gear instead of factory. I think this is the best choice. I heard a lot of problems with the powertrax and that the factory LSD is okay but most will upgrade to Auburn instead of replacing it with factory. Plus, I have enough to spare for some gears. (Since I'm in the rear end) I've got 3.55's. KRC told me to go with 4.10's. So I see two brands Genuine gear Gear and Richmond. I've heard a few people say the GG's break down and that factory gears are much stronger. And Richmond is really good but has gear wine to it. Then I found Motive Gear. How are these gears? I heard they don't have the wine like Richmond. Am I going in the right direction?

Message: I hear Richmond or Precision are the best. I went with the cheaper Yukons before I heard that, my 4.10s are quiet but they were installed by a reputable place that said they did some extra work to them. I don't think they should whine if someone who knows what they're doing cleans them up if needed. I chose the Auburn limited slip over factory too; I hear the pricier Eaton is even better. 4.10 isn't too low, if I had oversize tires I'd go even lower.

Message: i wouldn't think that any rearend, not matter what gears would whine if set up properly. except maybe a quick change rear.

Message: I don't believe Eaton makes any LSD's for the Dakotas. Plus, I have a 8.25 rear end. So, some companys like Eaton and other Ring and Pinon companys only support the 9.

Message: Maybe not for the 8 1/4, but I was told they do for my 9 1/4. Not all Daks have the 8 1/4, many have the 9 1/4. I forgot most (all ?) of the v6s have the 8 1/4.
