thanks for the help. i will post on here when it is done. work has been so busy lately that i come quitin time, i havent felt like stayin around to work on my tb. once i get mine done and make sure that it is right, i will be willing to mod anyones tb if they wanted. i will keep yall updated on the progress and outcome.

ITS ALIVE!!!!! i finished the tb yesterday and put it on my truck. it runs great. definately best mod by far. i bored a stock v6 tb to 48mm!! it pulls hard going up hills now and doesnt need to downshift and i have already noticed an increase in mpg. i had to drive 2 and a half hours to my parents house this morning and made the trip on a quarter tank of gas. it usually takes 3/8 tank of gas to make the trip before. the only problem that i am having is a high idle... about 1000. i am going to have to make some more throttle plates maybe a little bigger and do some more grinding on the shaft for the plates to fit better. but it works for now.

gunner, i would be willing to bore yours as well but i would like to get a few bugs worked out first. i need to remake my throttle plates so that it will idle down. other than that, it works amazing. it was pretty time consuming because a v6 tb cannot be bored to 48mm because of how deep the bearings are set into them. i had to press the bearings out and make some alluminum spacers to put in behind them so that i could achieve the 48mm bore. i will let you know when i have mine fixed and i will give you a price on doing yours. i am doing this on my own time at work but for a rough estimate ill say $150 to bore yours out to 48mm. give me your e-mail address and i will send you some pics of my tb.

Dave, I never pursued the 48mm because of all the additional work, the risk of ruining a bearing and the fact that you don't gain that much more, if any, over the 46x48 or the design in the picture on the previous page.
If fitted correctly a modified tb should idle just fine after a couple of minutes. High or low idle are not uncommon initially.
When you install the plates hold the tb up to a light source and make sure that the light is even all the way around and that gap is not excessive.

i had to go stay with my parents until tuesday beacuse a death in the family. once i get back home, i will take some pics and e-mail them to yall. the reason that it is idleing high is because there is some excessive gaps around the plates. i know now what i have to do to fix it but i just wanted to go ahead and run it like it was because of all of the driving that i am doing this weekend. it only idles at 1000 which is not too high but once it is in gear it idles down under a load. once i get back, i will take some pics to e-mail to both of you. i should have mine fixed on wednesday once i get back to work.
