Message: ok there are two ways to do this, either drop the tank or pull the bed off. I dropped the tank. this is best to do with an EMPTY tank. i drove it til i had less then a gallon left (be careful with that part) then just pull the strap bolts and put a block of wood under with a jack to support the tank. then slowly lower the tank until you can disconnect hoses and everything else. once you pull the tank out (this will require raising the vehicle(farther on a 2wd))then blow the tank off with compressed air to rid it of dirt and remove the plastic retaining ring with a piece of wood and hammer. note how stuff comes out and reverse the process. its pretty simple really.

Message: I opted for removing the bed. While you are in there, might as well replace the hoses from the fuel tank to the fuel door. Napa carries it. One less thing to worry about in the future and was only like $12 to replace (they sell it by the foot, though you only need like half of that).
ventiliation is your friend, do not do this in a closed garage.
You may want to consider replacing the whole fuel pump. For me it was $70 for a fuel sending unit and $152 for a new pump with sending unit. New pump comes with new filter. And my fuel pump was going out, replacing the sending unit didn't fix jack. And the new fuel sending unit was special order and non-returnable. Just some food for thought.
93dak4x4 is right, simple process.
