Subject: Cat Convertor Question IP: Logged
Message: As I read through old post I could not find exactly what I was looking for. I read many that stated that when the cat was cut off that it did not trip a code, and while others said that it would.
I am wanting to know if I do cut the cat off of my 99 and put a peice of pipe in its place and it does trip a code, is there a cheaper way to fix that problem with like a certain ohm resistor or something other than having to spend $65-$85 for an O2 simm?

Message: yep .. O2 is in the same location.. no problems since the rear O2 has nothing to do with fuel mix .... it just keeps a eye on the cat to make sure its still working right.....

Message: If you want to get the best bang for your buck just purchase a highflow converter. it will not trip a code and its legal. plus when you go to sell it(if you do) then you wont need to put a cat on. or if you ever need to do emissions testing. besides, i had mine cut off for a year and i think it runs better with my highflow then without the cat.

Message: We don't have emissions testing in oklahoma or Arkansas, so I don't have to worry about that and I don't plan on selling the truck, I am going to give it to my nephew when he turns 16. The only thing I am worried about is the o2 tripping a code and I was told that it is the one that does the fuel/air mixture.

Message: You should be able to get an O2 sim for about $25 or you find instruction to make one of your own.

Message: well my advice is to buy the highflow regardless of having testing. I found that the truck had better low end and slightly better gas mileage with the converter then without it. I also have a Flowmaster muffler too though, all with 3" pipe.

Well, you should, as it's a felony (federal crime) to remove or disable the catcon. Why do it? Why make more trouble for someone else later, that can come back on you? All it takes is a visual by a cop in any state, and the driver is screwed. A high-flow works great.

Message: Sure, a visual inspection will get you a fine; if your cat is gone. When the cat plugs on a vehicle that I drive, I just beat the catalyst out of the center of it and bolt it back up. Presto, you killed two birds with one stone. It will pass everything but an emissions and perhaps a smell test. Plus you save money on piping and welding.
