Subject: Checking up on a local dealership IP: Logged
Message: I have a check engine light on 2001 v-6 Dakota the local shop is telling me I have an internal pcm failure. I am a senoir master auto tech for Ford but have never done check engine light diagnostics on Dodge before. I asked them what the code was and they couln't tell me they just said the scanner said internal failure, and there diagnostics lead them to the pcm. I know all domestics have pcm failure codes P0603,604,600, and 601 when I confronted them with this they could not tell me what the code was. I just need some advice they are sounding shady to me, is it common for dodge pcm's to go out and does there scan tool not give a code for it. Don't want to get screwed out of 400.00 dollars. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Message: Yep just like slow said above.
Starting from the off position do this cycle...On, off, on, off, on and leave on now take a look at your odometer. (on doesnt mean start)
Are you having any problems with your truck? Mileage drop, runs poor etc...

Message: I don't believe the on-off-on-off.... trick works on 98 and newer daks. You have to get a scan tool for those.

Message: Yes DC does have pcm's that do tricp out they just hook up a scanner and reset it. I guess you could do the same thing with taking off the negative on the battery and turning on the key to drain all the power out of the componets on the truck. My wife and i just bought a 2004 dak and a 2002 stratus and the stratus had a problem with hesatation and they said they had to reprogram the pcm, so i guess it is a common problem

Message: just pull the plug off the battery. or you can just unplug the pcm itself. i recommend just unplugging the battery. i was told by a old azz guy at the dodge dealership that unplugging the battery resets the pcm to factory specs.

Message: I had a problem with my PCM going out, but my truck would just shut off at time, May DC replace it for free. But of course the PCM is covered under warranty until 80,000.
